Calhoun County Sheriff George Aleman said Saturday that deputies discovered what was described as a "sparkler bomb" in an area southwest of Seadrift.

Aleman said residents reported hearing an explosion about 10 p.m. Friday night. Officials searched the area most of the night but found nothing.

Deputies later discovered a device that was not detonated, which was a bunch of sparkler fireworks taped tightly together.

The device was handed over to the Corpus Christi Police Department's Bomb Squad, Aleman said.
