Korean War era veterans are invited to take part in the We Remember parade Feb. 1 in downtown Victoria.

The parade is for all veterans of the Korean War era, said Ron Kocian, president of Warrrior's Weekend, sponsor of the event.

"It's the right thing to do," Kocian said. "These veterans are getting older, and there's not that many of them left."

The Parade That Never Was was held in 2012 honoring Vietnam War era veterans, and Kocian thinks it's appropriate that Korean War veterans have their day, too.

"It's called the 'Forgotten War,' but we haven't forgotten. We need to reach out to veterans of all eras. We need to honor them, too," he said.

Korean War veteran Charles Petersen, of El Campo, is glad to see the event coming together.

"It sounds good," he said. "I am glad someone is finally doing it."

In addition to inviting Korean War era veterans to take part, other parade entrants are welcome, including floats, clubs and organizations, churches, marching bands, drill teams, individual cars, trucks and motorcycles and car or motorcycle clubs.

After the parade, the veterans and their spouses and the widows of Korean War era veterans will be feted with a luncheon at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, 2001 Lova Lane.

Registration forms for veterans and entry forms for parade participants are available on the Warriors Weekend website.
