The DeTar Volunteer Services donated $10,000 to Victoria College for 10 nursing scholarships.
The volunteers operate two gift shops at DeTar Hospital Navarro and DeTar Hospital North. Primarily, the profits made at both gift shops are used for charitable contributions that assist the youth of Victoria and help with refurbishing of both hospitals, the health center and various rooms in the hospitals.
The DeTar group consists of 80 senior volunteers and 15 pastoral care volunteers, which are also part of the senior volunteer group. Coordinator for the DeTar Volunteer Services is Yvette Peuttus.
"The DeTar Volunteer Services Inc. has been a huge advocate of the nursing program at Victoria College," said Amy Mundy, Victoria College Foundation executive director. "The scholarship donations they have made over the years have helped many students achieve their goal of a career in health care. ..."
Each year, the group provides money for 10 $1,000 nursing scholarships to Victoria College students. The college selects the students who receive the scholarships.
