Clare Petru, left, a certified medical assistant and graduate of Victoria College, confers with Dr. Robert Harvey on electronic health records at the Victoria Allergy & Asthma Clinic.

Registration for Victoria College's Electronic Health Records course will be Jan. 23.

Classes will begin Feb. 6. The classes will meet from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through March 27 in VC's Health Sciences Center, Room 133.

Students must have an associate degree or higher and/or comparable work experience. They must also understand basic computer operation.

This course provides skills and knowledge in the health information field relating to electronic health records management. The roles of various health care support positions such as the medical office scribe, registration, admitting and receptionist staff and nursing unit computer support positions will be included.

The Victoria Allergy and Asthma Clinic has used electronic medical records for the past 10 years with favorable results.

"It helps us with our efficiency; we don't have to be chasing paper trails all over the place," said Dr. Robert Harvey, a clinic physician. "A lot of things are at your fingertips faster electronically than by paper."
