Goliad trombonist makes All-state jazz ensemble

Goliad High School student Matthew Bruns was named to the 2014 Association of Texas Small School Bands All-State Jazz Ensemble. Matthew, the first GHS musician to earn the honor, will meet with the ensemble in San Antonio for rehearsal Feb. 12-15 and perform in concert  Feb. 15 in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. He was one of 20 students selected for the all-state jazz ensemble. This is his second time to perform as a member of an ATSSB all-state band. Matthew is a student of Donnie Todd and Ron Wilkins and plays the trombone at school under the direction of Jason Howard. He is also a member of the Victoria Crossroads Community Band. Matthew is the son of James and Allyson Bruns, of Goliad; and the grandson of Debbie Sturm and the late Robert Sturm, of Yorktown, and Kenneth and Barbara Bruns, of Victoria.
