An isolated snowstorm is expected in Edna on Saturday with a 100 percent chance of snowballs and wintry fun.
The Brackenridge Winter Carnival and Snow Day is bringing 59,000 pounds of ice-turned-snow to the Main Event Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the entire community is invited to come and play in the snow.
Cammie Pearson, Lavaca-Navidad River Authority recreation manager, said the family-centered event will feature giant snowy slides, hay rides, carnival games, a s'more-making station and some of the best concession food in South Texas.
"The parents have as much fun as the kids do. They go down the slide with the kids, and there's lots of photo opportunities and a chance to throw a snowball or two," she said.
The s'more station is new to the snow event this year and will feature an area where kids can roast marshmallows and assemble their own s'mores.
In addition to the games and inflatables, snow games are expected to impress.
"The front lawn is entered at your own risk. They will be throwing snowballs there," Pearson said.
In another area designated for smaller children, a no-snowball rule will be in action.
Pearson said admission to the event is $15, which is an all-inclusive fee, including prizes and candy. Parents who do not want to participate can purchase a $5 spectator wristband, which allows them in the park and includes free hay rides.
"It's a lot of fun for everyone," she said. "Everyone will enjoy it."
