Sophomores and juniors will learn about what classes they should take at the Victoria school district's "Operation Pay Day" all-day event, scheduled for this and next week.

"Basically, we'll be letting them know that there is a payoff to getting an education," said Diane Boyett, VISD communications director.

Students will be informed of their local options from career paths leading students down a traditional four-year university route to others that would help students get jobs right after high school graduation, Boyett said.

VISD will offer firefighting training for the first time next school year.

Students will hear from Career and Technology Institute and Victoria College representatives as well as area industry experts.

Victoria West High School students will participate Thursday and Friday.

Victoria East High School students will participate on Monday and Tuesday.
