Editor, the Advocate:
In the Advocate's Jan. 16 article on the Victoria Main Street Program and Christmas windows decorating contest, Constance Filley Johnson, board member, encouraged people to drive around downtown. In a Jan. 17 article, Lynn Short said he would have the streets clean enough to eat off of them.
Well, we don't want to eat off the streets; we just want streets without holes as big as washtubs. From Moody Street and Rio Grande Streets to the old part of town on Main Street, it is nothing but holes. All the streets that were torn up to fix water lines, etc., need to be resurfaced - like Main Street up to Port Lavaca Drive. If you want people to visit the old part of town, you need to fix up the streets.
Cuero has a better Main Street, even with all the oil-field traffic. Get the City Council and the mayor to look at why the streets are in this shape and then fix them. Shame on them until they do.
