David W. Bowman

• Occupation: County judge

• Political party: Republican

• Office seeking: County Judge

Why do you want to serve in this position?

I am able to provide the positive leadership needed to face the many challenges we have and will face. Those challenges are maintaining a vibrant tax base, developing methods to provide the same services at a reduced cost, and determine additional services that might be provided to the community.

What qualifies you to serve in this office?

I have served as county judge for three plus years. I have also served in leadership roles in private industry, Goliad school board, Appraisal District Board of Directors, Region 3 Education Service Center, Lions Club, Goliad Education Foundation, Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, and St. Peter's Lutheran Church congregation.

If elected, how will you go about effectively serving your constituents?

As I have for the past three plus years by maintaining an open door policy. I am readily accessible. If anyone wishes to speak with me they can drop by my office at any time. I will listen to your concern with an open mind and do my best to assist in any way that I can.

Name: Pat Calhoun

• Age: 55

• City/county: Goliad

• Occupation: Rancher

• Political party: Republican

• Office seeking: County Judge

Why do you want to serve in this position?

I am a retired Marine so service is sort of a way of life for me. I'm really for a conservative fiscal policy. The last two years in a row we've passed deficit budgets. I would push for a joint quarterly meeting with the commissioners court, city council, the Goliad Groundwater Conservation District and the school board to make sure we are all working toward the same goals. I'm not trying to be negative. I'm not running against somebody. I'm running for the position of county judge.

What qualifies you to serve in this office?

I have a masters degree. I am a retired Marine. I have worked and operated multi-million dollar budgets in my past. I've been very active in the community. I'm passed president of the chamber of commerce and the Goliad County A&M club. I'm currently the president of the Goliad County Farm Bureau, the ambassador for the Goliad County Area Go Texan (part of the Houston livestock show and rodeo) and the master of the Masonic Lodge in Goliad.

If elected, how will you go about effectively serving your constituents?

I have an MBA and the way I look at it is the commissioners court is kind of like a board of directors and the taxpayers are the shareholders. We need to get back to running the county as a business. Everything that comes up needs to be thoroughly explored. We need to avoid a rush to judgment.
