Friday's profiles spotlight candidates for the Democratic Party nomination for county commissioner, Precinct 2, in Goliad County. The winner of this race will face Republican Richard Ball in the Nov. 4 general election.

Why do you want to serve in this position?

To better serve the community and to improve the working relations between our county, school and city. To learn to work together not against each other. My ultimate goal is to lower tax dollars and to bring new ideas and new industries to Goliad.

What qualifies you to serve in this office?

I have been a businessman for more than 10 years, and I have served under a previous county commissioner for 10 years. I am now serving on the Goliad City Council for my second term.

If elected, how will you go about effectively serving your constituents?

I will continue to listen to my constituents and voice my opinion when needed. I will do what is right for the whole community.

Why do you want to serve in this position?

I, Alonzo Morales Jr., have proudly and effectively served as Goliad county commissioner, Precinct 2, and eagerly announce my candidacy for re-election to continue the duties bestowed upon me for the betterment of our community. I am very active in the community. I want to continue to a have a professional working relationship not only with our county but also with the different organizations, businesses and groups of Goliad County.

What qualifies you to serve in this office?

My 30-plus years of community service is my No. 1 qualification to serve my constituents to the best of my ability. As commissioner of Precinct 2, I have maintained and worked within our budget. I have been a part of bringing in new business to our community. Developing and maintaining important working relationships with other groups and organizations. Leading day-to-day job duties, ensuring signage is maintained on our streets and seal coating of roadways are other vital components. I have also maintained a proper approved budget.

If elected, how will you go about effectively serving your constituents?

I feel that I have contributed as a responsible and accountable commissioner. I have also contributed significantly working as a team with the entire court. I have enjoyed working with and will continue to work for all constituents, different organizations and groups in Goliad County. I am always available to my constituents, and they can continue to call me with any issue.
