Reader grateful for affordable health care

Editor, the Advocate:

At 9 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, it felt like a steel bubble was trying to come up through the bottom of my esophagus; the pain was excruciating and very intense.

After a while, I went to my doctor's office, and they told me to go to the emergency room. I was seen within 20 minutes and had to have quite a few tests, including X-rays, blood drawn and an I.V. with medications.

About two hours later, I was feeling back to normal and asked the attendant what I owe. "Nothing," she replies. The affordable health care has covered my expenses, and at a very affordable premium. It also is saving me almost $900 on one of my medications and about $435 on another. I also get a free mammography, colonoscopy, pap smear and a well-woman exam. But that is not all. I have to have blood drawn every two and a half months, and it pays for all of those tests.

I wrote this letter because I want to thank the person responsible for providing this for me: President Barack Obama. Without his diligence and hard work on this issue, the Republicans would have never done anything about it. Thank you, Mr. President. I truly believe you care about the working class.
