Victoria Performing Arts Center budgeted $7,400 for catering for the Victoria TX Independent Film Festival in 2014: $5,000 for food, $1,200 for beer and wine and $1,200 for miscellaneous hospitality in the $82,680 in hotel tax funds. VPAC showed $6,426 was spent in that category.
An A1 story Monday failed to report that the Victoria City Council approved in advance catering as part of the film fest budget.
Vic Caldwell, a member of the hotel occupancy tax funding committee, said his comment, "The committee doesn't look at food and alcohol as being acceptable," was in regard to funds specifically used to pay for food and alcohol to bring people to Victoria.
A party would not fall under the guidelines for hotel occupancy tax funds, he said.
However, if food and alcohol are an incidental part of a larger program, then it is acceptable for use with hotel tax funds, Victoria city attorney Thomas Gwosdz said. Gwosdz said he does not expect the hotel tax funds review committee to turn down VPAC's reimbursement request as long as the proper receipts are provided.
