Fashionable Girl's Guide: Treat yourself to some summer sparkle at the supermarket
Every Sunday morning, my husband and I make breakfast. I do a little housework, and we head to the grocery store.
Why do I drag my poor husband to the grocery store every weekend?
Because without him there to make me laugh, I am far more likely to impatiently run someone over with my cart.
Now, I love jewelry, purses, scarves and shoes just as much as the next girl. My bank account does not. I have managed to amass a rather large collection of jewelry, but most of it costs less than $20.
I love costume jewelry, and most days, I prefer it.
It's fun, colorful, and when it chips or falls apart or a cocktail ring falls down the toilet, I don't cry. I take a moment and move on. Never sweat the $12 that is now circling the drain.
Tragically, I don't have time to zip up to Charming Charlie's when I need a necklace or earrings to go with my new maxi dress. When I discovered a few months back that the new boutique in H-E-B Plus! was a jewelry shop, I had to take a moment.
Seriously, in the grocery store?
Literally located between the toilet paper and the cosmetics aisle, it's kind of genius.
Two aisles all women have to frequent.
Still, I was skeptical. But in the spirit of fashion, I gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised.
Mia's Mirror is bright, cheerful and has a great selection of jewelry, scarves and purses.
Best part: It is color coordinated. I'm a bit OCD. I get overwhelmed in a store that has no rhyme or reason and tend to avoid department stores. After 10 minutes, I literally have to get out.
Mia's Mirror is six to 10 kiosks of bracelets, rings and necklaces with matching purses and shoes grouped by color or metal type. If you are looking for something specific, then just head to the appropriate section and take care of business. You can literally get your jewelry and an adorable clutch all in the same place.
It also has a great variety of scarves in every color and pattern imaginable. I am a major sucker for scarves. I love the personality they can add to the most boring of outfits. (I cannot speak to the shoes. I have feet the size of a fifth-grader, and most stores do not carry my size.)
I stopped by Mia's Mirror to see what was new. They are always having a sale, so I knew I would find something fun, fabulous and in my budget. This week, I found these great pieces:
1. This hot pink chevron purse is eye-catching and perfect for a sunny summer brunch. It has a spunky personality and plenty of room for all my junk.
2. I always love a good chunky necklace because it is an easy standalone piece. (If you wear a big, chunky necklace, it is all the jewelry you need.) A great cocktail ring can be an unexpected and fabulous choice. Either works perfectly with almost any look.
3. The scarf was actually a gift from my mom, and she nailed it. The bright colors make me want to head to Cancun and sip a margarita poolside.
Next time you are trudging through the grocery store with your blood pressure slowly rising and you begin contemplating causing some serious bodily injury, take a second to treat yourself.
Stop by Mia's Mirror and grab a colorful, summery pair of earrings. I promise you will immediately feel better, and your husband won't have to bail you out of jail for intentionally running someone over with your cart.
