Jeet Kune Do martial arts instructor Mark Rendon will host his first Victoria weapons seminar Saturday to teach people how to properly defend themselves in the face of emergency.

Mark Rendon has built upon the philosophy that minimal movements with maximum effects are best when it comes to reality-based combat through two decades of training of his body, mind and soul.

Rendon will share that ideology during a weapons training seminar Saturday at the Victoria Community Center softball complex pavilion.

"I want to share this information because we live in a violent world," Rendon said.

The seminar will teach people how to use weapons, such as knives and sticks, through training drills that will develop quick reflexes, coordination and rhythm.

"Anything can be a weapon," Rendon said. "It's all about survival."

Rendon began his mixed martial arts by studying kung fu in high school but became lost in his training in college, which is when he found Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do is an hybrid martial arts system founded by Bruce Lee, who describes it as the "art of expressing the human body."

"It's individualized - it's all about the individual," Rendon said. "It's about developing yourself from the physical side - developing confidence - and then going in to the culture, mental, emotional and spiritual."
