Victoria Southwest started its quest for the Texas East State championship in its first game against Pearland East Saturday at Faulkner Park in Tyler.

Victoria Southwest's 11- and 12-year olds lost its first game 11-3 to Pearland.

The team has one more chance in the double-elimination tournament to advance to the next round.

Victoria Southwest scored twice in the third inning to close the gap to 4-2.

However, Pearland's four runs in the fourth and three more in the top of the sixth spurred them ahead 11-2 going into the bottom of the sixth.

A home run by Ky Zarate, who also pitched in the game, gave Victoria Southwest its last run to finish the game 11-3.
