Pro-con: Are city residents being double-taxed?

Victoria firefighters work to put out a house fire on the 1700 block of North Cameron Street on July 3.

Some people choose to live in the county, in part to avoid paying higher taxes in the city.

Residents of most cities pay both city and county taxes, but some city residents think they should not be "double taxed" to pay for emergency services, such as fire and ambulance, for rural residents.

For the city of Edna and Jackson County, forming an emergency services district was the answer, but would that work in Victoria County?

The idea is open for discussion.

Pro: Emergency services district could equalize tax burden

Con: City, county agreements save money, reduce cost
