Pecan Valley Groundwater Conservation District will have three places on its five-person board of directors up for re-election in the November general election.
Candidates must live in the precinct they intend to file for and regularly attend monthly board meetings the third Tuesday of each month. There may be some specially called meetings or workshops during the year. Terms are four years and become effective Jan. 1. Board members are paid $200 per meeting attended.
Candidates should have some general knowledge and interest in protecting the Gulf Coast Aquifer and be willing to educate themselves on the rules set up by the board for water usage in DeWitt County.
Deadline for filing is 4 p.m. Aug. 18 at the District office, 107 N. Gonzales St., in Cuero. Places up for re-election are DeWitt County Precincts 1, 2 and 3.
The district is a special district set up by the Texas Legislature and is primarily governed by Chapter 36 of the Texas Water Code.
Within that framework, local rules are set by the board for protection of DeWitt County's water resources for DeWitt County residents.
