A $218,000 cost-share grant from Texas A&M Forest Service helped purchase a new tanker truck for the Victoria County Volunteer Fire Department. The department previously drove used vehicles - some more than 20 years old. The new tanker allows the volunteer fire department to better serve its district. "We want to help everyone in the county out as much as we can," Victoria County Fire Chief Ron Pray said. "One of our trucks recently failed completely on us. This grant came at the perfect time for us." The new truck comes equipped with compressed air that will help more efficiently fight structural fires and aid in combating fuel fires at the airport. "A lot of departments are living off of barbecue fundraisers and raffles," Pray said. "When they can get a truck like this that can protect their citizens, there are so many benefits to it."
