Fire department gets new tanker

July 23, 2014 at 2:23 a.m.

The Victoria County Volunteer Fire Department recently purchased a new tanker with aid from a cost-share grant in the amount of $218,000 from the Texas A&M Forest Service to help better serve not only the people of its fire district but also the entire county. The Victoria County Volunteer Fire Department previously operated with used vehicles, some more than 20 years old. The new truck also comes equipped with a compressed air foam system that will not only help volunteers more efficiently fight structural fires but will also help when responding to fuel fires at the local airport. Shown with the check, from left, are Ron Pray, fire marshal and chief of Victoria County Volunteer Fire Department; Becky Smiley, grants administrator; Joyce Dean, director of administrative services; Danny Garcia, Kevin Janak and Clint Ives, county commissioners; Donald Pozzi, county judge; Gary Burns, county commissioner; and Jared Karns.
