Leslie Judd and other volunteers need the community's help in treating and controlling the cat and kitten population.

Judd, who serves on the board of directors for the nonprofit organization Victoria Trap Neuter Return, is looking for donations and man-hours.

Monday, at The Sendera, the group is hosting its second annual Spay-ghetti Dinner and Silent Auction Benefit to raise awareness and funds. The private, nonprofit organization works to improve the livelihood of feral and free-roaming cats.

In many cases, these cats and kittens have at one point been domesticated but were abandoned by owners, Judd said.

The nonprofit, which also acts as a shelter, focuses on finding homes for some cats and kittens. The others are then returned to where they were trapped to continue to naturally contribute to that environment, by controlling the rodent population, for example, she added.

"The important thing is to raise the quality of life for the cats," she said, adding that all donations go toward the animals' betterment.

The benefit also will include the announcement of a land and building fund to build a rescue shelter.

"The quality of life for all these cats out there without a lot of care is really terrible," she said.
