The heat index for Refugio County reached or exceeded 110 degrees Saturday, causing the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory that urged residents to guard against the extreme weather.
Special weather warnings and advisories are likely throughout the Crossroads on Sunday because temperatures are expected to be higher than Saturday's.
The high temperature in Victoria County was 96 degrees Saturday. Sunday's high is expected to reach 98 or 99 degrees.
Special weather statements for heat indices ranging from 105 degrees to 109 degrees were also issued for Victoria, Goliad and Calhoun counties Saturday.
The National Weather Service recommends people, especially the elderly, stay indoors, avoid prolonged exposure to the high temperatures, limit physical activity outdoors and drink plenty of water.
