A rescue crew aboard a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter hoisted a 50-year-old fisherman suffering from severe abdominal pain from his ship Saturday morning 25 miles offshore of Port O'Connor.

A 50-year-old fisherman suffering from severe abdominal pain was taken to a Corpus Christi hospital by helicopter Saturday from his station 25 miles offshore of Port O'Connor.

A distress call came in at 8 a.m. to the Corpus Christi Command Center from the captain of a commercial fishing boat, stating a crew member had been experiencing unbearable stomach pain for several hours, according to a news release issued Sunday.

A 45-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Port O'Connor and a MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter were sent out to assist.

The fisherman, whose hometown was unavailable, was hoisted from the boat by the helicopter rescue crew and was listed in stable condition at Spohn Memorial Hospital.
