Watercolor artist named Citizens' artist of the month

Mary Smith has been named the Citizens Medical Center's artist of the month for June. Smith uses pastels, watercolors, woodblock print and various drawing media. Her favorite subjects are deserts and other secluded landscapes, botanical studies, still lifes and models.

Mary Smith has been named the Citizens Medical Center artist of the month for June. Smith uses pastels, watercolors, woodblock print and various drawing media. Her favorite subjects are deserts and other secluded landscapes, botanical studies, still lifes and models. She spends most of her time outdoors, hiking, paddling, cross-country skiing and birding. Smith studied painting, printmaking, design and art history at New Mexico Highlands University. She earned her bachelor's degree there, which provided the foundation for teaching and producing art. Smith grew up in New Braunfels, lived in New Mexico for several decades, returned to South Texas in 1998 and now lives in Victoria. She is a member of the Corpus Christi Art Center and Victoria Art League. Her art is on display in the main lobby of Citizens Medical Center.
