June 6, 2014 at 1:06 a.m.

Victoria East second baseman Tim Gleinser tosses the ball to shortstop Jonathan Ortega so he can tag out a runner and make a double play during the seventh inning of Thursday's Class 4A state semifinal game against Richmond George Ranch at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

ROUND ROCK- Victoria East's last hurdle in its quest to win a state baseball championship is Aledo.

The Titans (30-9) and Bearcats (33-6-2) will meet in the Class 4A final Friday at 7 p.m. at Dell Diamond.

The Bearcats are best known for their run to the Class 4A, Division II state football championship, during which they broke Refugio's state record for points scored in the season.

But Aledo recently won the Class 4A state softball championship and will attempt to win its third state title in the current school year.

The Bearcats captured a 9-1 semifinal win over Hallsville on Thursday night at Dell Diamond.

Aledo had 10 hits against Hallsville, including three by first baseman Dakota Durant, who had three RBIs.

Chris Reed was the winning pitcher for the Bearcats and improved to 11-2. Aledo could throw Taco Anderson (8-2), Colton Clanton (5-0), or Mark Swift (4-0) against East.

The Titans are expected to start senior right-hander Mike Garcia (6-1).

Aledo has a 9-2 record in the playoffs and like East is making its first state tournament appearance.
