Marriage is commitment that lasts forever

Editor, the Advocate:

My wife, Marjorie, and I will have been married 50 years on the 20th of this month of June.

One has to be specific when you ask God for something. Having converted to Catholicism when I was 18 and in college, I asked God to send me a good Catholic girl. He gave me Marjorie Marie Holy.

But a successful marriage starts long before you meet your future spouse. I was blessed to come from a good, God-fearing home. We were taught to practice the virtue of chastity and respect for the opposite sex. Saving yourself for your future spouse is a great blessing. And remaining chaste, a couple never has to suffer from the many things that plague our society.

The welfare of a society depends on the stability of the families. If you have rock-hard families that go to church and raise good kids, the society will greatly benefit. Marriage is presently under attack from many sides, and the end results will be a crippled society.

God made them male and female for more than one purpose. If you believe there are more than two genders, then you are part of the current insanity.

As a couple grows together, they learn how they can best help their partner become the best person he or she can be. And it makes one proud to see their spouse achieving significant goals.

Once children start coming, it obviously changes everything. But one has to always remember that they are a gift from God. Children are always a great blessing. Couples should try to have at least three children. Never use any contraceptives and always have your disagreements and quarrels away from your children.

Will you fight? Yes. You will have fights and get so mad you want to drive off - or she does. Put away the keys. Walk around the block. Forgetting and forgiving is a big part of marriage - sometimes the best part.

Marriage is forever - till death do us part.
