PORT LAVACA - A 75-year-old Port Lavaca man was in the Calhoun County Jail on Saturday on a $150,000 bond after being arrested in the early morning in connection with the fatal stabbing of another man.
After his arrest, Manuel Fuentes Jr. told officers that he stabbed Juan Antonio Soto, 53, of Port Lavaca, with a large kitchen knife during a physical altercation, said police Detective Colin Rangnow.
Soto suffered a stab wound in the right center of his chest and suffered a surface wound to his left wrist, said Rangnow, who added that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the fight.
Calhoun County paramedics responded to the scene - an upstairs apartment in the 600 block of North Commerce Street - where they found Soto unresponsive on the floor.
The victim was rushed to Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by Nancy Pomykal, Calhoun County justice of the peace, Precinct 5.
His remains will be turned over to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office on Monday for an autopsy, Rangnow said.
Attempts to reach a relative of the suspect at the Commerce Street apartment were unsuccessful.
