Two East High students place in UIL competition

Jade Hayes won the editorial writing contest at the District 30 4 A meet at Gregory-Portland, placed third at the Regional at UTSA to advance to state where she won the third place medal.

Two Victoria East High School students competed in the UIL Academic State meet at the University of Texas from May 19 to May 21, and both won medals in their competitions.

Senior Jade Hayes won the editorial writing contest at the District 30-4A meet at Gregory-Portland and placed third at the regional meet at UTSA to advance to state, where she won the third-place medal.

Junior Summer Gregurek advanced to state in two events, becoming the first student to do so in speech and debate in VISD history.

Summer placed first in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and informative speaking at the UIL Academic District meet at Gregory-Portland, placed third in Lincoln-Douglas Debate at regional and first in informative speaking at regional to advance to state in both events.

She earned the sixth-place medal in informative speaking at state. Summer also won the sixth-place medal in informative speaking at state as a sophomore.

Both students qualified for Texas Interscholastic League Foundation scholarships to a college of their choice in Texas.
