The Spirit of Texas, one of United Way's top awards, recognizes a company and their employees who demonstrate campaign excellence and community commitment. Organizations and companies are chosen for this award based on leadership, giving, volunteerism, employee participation and giving levels, year-round education, corporate support, incentive programs and campaign rallies.

Citizens Medical Center employees committed themselves to becoming one of the top fundraising teams during the 2013 giving campaign. They raised a total of $42,594 through several hospital fundraising events and pledge card donations, $14,228 more than the 2012 campaign.
