Thumbs-up to the Victoria Advocate and Melissa Crowe for writing a warm, wonderful front-page story on Rubin Frels. Indeed, he was a treasure.

Thumbs-up to conservation efforts to save the American alligator, which has rebounded and is now enjoying the cuisine in our duck pond.
Thumbs-down to the national alert system. You would think in this day of technology they could run Amber and weather alerts that were clear and not all garbled.
Thumbs-down to whomever said the alligator taken from the park was 3 feet long; it was every bit of 5 feet long, or else the guy who caught it was 4 feet tall.
