The work on repainting and installing new lighting in the gallery is almost complete. Our gallery is open now at our regular times, from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. The walls are again filled with artwork, and other art in various media is displayed and for sale all around the gallery.
Remember, the Art League is available for rentals, so if you have any kind of event, including rehearsal dinners or weddings, check us out. All you have to do is call our property manager, Marc Hinojosa, at 361-648-6272 or give us a call at 361-572-0825 and make arrangements to come visit our historical building and patio with gazebo. Tables and chairs are included with the rental.
We are getting back in the swing of things with a three-day workshop in oil painting with Mark Keathley. He treated us to a great demonstration in our February meeting, showing us so much in a little bit of time. Thanks, Mark.
He always leaves me with that desire to pick up a brush and do something. I will be taking his class.
This month, we will have Jim Frank demonstrate his method of creating animal sculptures in clay. Make plans to come to our meeting March 9. Jim will be offering a workshop in clay sculpture later for anyone with experience in clay. You may contact him for information at 361-575-8056 or 361-649-6628.
Jim Feig has already started a beginning photography class for March and will start a Photoshop class Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting March 6. For more information on this class, call him at 361-576-0578 or 649-8738.
I am teaching beginner pottery Tuesdays and follow-up pottery Thursdays in the pottery room.
Paint the Town is meeting on various days throughout the week. People are having so much fun gathering, painting and socializing at this popular event. Call Eunice Collins at 576-4043 to sign up or schedule an event.
Our Youth Art Show will be the last week in April, so encourage your kids to be preparing for this once-a-year event at the Art League. We will have categories in all media with cash prizes, so they need to be working now to come up with some special projects for this. We want to make this one the best ever, so please help us make it so. I will write more about this next month.
Our Artist of the Month for March will be Janet Bishop. She works mostly in pastels but also works in acrylics and oils. We will have a reception for her before our regular meeting at 2 p.m. March 9 and hope you can come. If not then, come see her work and the others on display any time we are open.
You can contact us for more information about the art league by calling 572-0825, going to victoriaartleague.net, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or going to Facebook/Victoria Art League.
Let me encourage you to take a walk or a drive during this wonderful time of the year and experience the blooming of God's creation and the beauty of the world around us.
Bill Bauer is past president of the Victoria Art League.
