A Houston man in his 30s died Sunday morning from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Port Lavaca Police Department responded to a call at 7 a.m. Sunday from a resident who found a man in critical condition lying on his back on a bird walking trail at Lighthouse Beach, said Port Lavaca police detective Josh Smith.
The man was found with a handgun next to him, Smith said. He said the man was still showing signs of breathing when the police arrived.
The man was being transported to Citizens Medical Center when he died, Smith said. An autopsy will be conducted in Travis County, but it appears the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, Smith said. He said it is not yet clear why the man was in Port Lavaca.
