Congratulations to West Warriors basketball
Editor, the Advocate:
Congratulations to the 2013-14 West Warriors boys basketball team and family for a wonderful, exciting season. Although our "unfinished business" (for this year) ended Friday night in Woodsboro, the memories will last forever.
To my grandson, Isaac Simmons, and all the players: I am so proud of you. Not just starters, but the all-important bench, for over and over throughout the season, you came in and made those key, clutch plays - always with total team commitment.
Robert Cain, you are an inspiration and define the meaning of a team player. To our trainers and managers, great job. Bless our awesome cheering section. Your dedication and spirit was the fun at the games. You kids made the difference for our boys.
To Don Brubaker, KAVU-TV, tres bien for your love of sports and all your years of excellent sports reporting and film coverage.
To Julie Garcia, Mike Forman and the Victoria Advocate, kudos for your great reporting, excellent photos and accurate quotes.
To coaches Erskine, Cantu, McDonald, Hernandez and Haynes (and bless their wives and girlfriends): thank you for the long hours - early and late - safe bus trips and your commitment, dedication and shared knowledge. Teaching our boys not only basketball but more important, what it takes to be a good man.
After the game, as we waited for the boys to come out of the locker room, I looked around and saw grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends of this team. My tears of sadness changed to happiness as I realized that this team family, of whom many were strangers to me at season's beginning, I now cherish as friends.
Finally, to Coach Erskine: your belief, our motto - "One Team, One Family, One Reason." I am so thankful to be a part of it.
Charlye Dollins, Victoria
