Car plunges into creek; driver dies
A Houston woman died early Thursday morning after her car drifted off U.S. Highway 59 and plunged into a creek near Ganado.
Bobbi Lynn Cashman, 50, was found inside her 2013 Kia Sportage that was three-quarters submerged in Mustang Creek, about 2.5 miles north of Ganado, said Department of Public Safety spokesman Trooper Gerald Bryant.
A passing motorist saw the roof of the SUV in the water and reported the wreck at 7:45 a.m.
Officials do not know when the wreck occurred, Bryant said.
Cashman was traveling north on the highway when she drifted off the road and hit the median.
Her SUV traveled 400 feet on the median before it became airborne and plunged into the creek.
Dwayne Taylor, a justice of the peace in Jackson County, pronounced Cashman dead at 8:14 a.m., Bryant said.
DPS Trooper Nicholas Diamond is investigating the wreck with assistance from Trooper Don Plunkett.
