Karnes County roads closed Monday when an oil tanker lost its load and were not expected to reopen until Tuesday morning. The roads were closed northwest of Karnes City.
The spill affected 3 miles of Farm-to-Market Road 81 and 6 miles of Farm-to-Market Road 1144. Consequently, Farm-to-Market Road 81 is closed from Farm-to-Market Road 1144 to County Road 217, and Farm-to-Market Road 1144 is closed from Farm-to-Market Road 81 to County Road 197, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Transportation in Corpus Christi.
Crews were expected to work through the night, but rain was moving into the area, which could interrupt the work.
Motorists should seek alternate routes while the cleanup is underway, according to the news release.
