Q:How did winning change your life?

A: It changed my life in that I was able to travel to Washington, D.C., and I don't think I would have been able to do that if I hadn't won the spelling bee. As I've gotten older, I've grown to appreciate what the Victoria Advocate has provided as part of the spelling bee program in our area.

Q:How did winning affect the career you are in? A: For winning the spelling bee, as many hours as I had to do for studying, it helped me get ready for college. Winning the spelling bee has enabled me to better write standard operating procedures at my job.

Q:What advice would you give to this year's spellers?

A: Enjoy it while you're there because that time in your life is very short. Work hard at it now, but enjoy the moment.

Q:Are you still a good speller?

A: Yes. I hope to pass the skill on to my three daughters. I have twins who are 7 years old and a 3-year-old daughter.

Q:How far did you advance at the national spelling bee?

A: I advanced to the third round.
