Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR THE WEEK ENDING MARCH 14

Tokyo Grill and Sushi Bar, 5006 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 12. Improper cold-hold temperature. Wash hands before handling clean dishes. Use three-step process to sanitize utensils. Need a light shield over vent hood in kitchen. Keep dry goods covered in storage area.

Rolling Joe's, 101 Lamar St., Point Comfort. Demerits: 10. Store raw meat below other foods. Use licensed pest control only. Need a thermometer in the Monster cooler. Two facility or equipment violations.

Village Grocery, U.S. Highway 35 and Lamar Street, Point Comfort. Demerits: 8. Wash hands in between tasks. Use gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods.

Dick's Food Stores Seadrift LLC., 202 Broadway St., Seadrift. Demerits: 7. Dispose of outdated baby food. Need a thermometer at the 7UP cooler. One facility or equipment violation.

Gabby's Grill, 101 Lamar St., Suite No. 2, Point Comfort. Demerits: 6. Need a 2014 permit. Two facility or equipment violations.

Back Porch Barbecue Inc., 2871 Garcitas Creek Road, Inez. Demerits: 4. No running water in establishment. Using bottled water with bleach and soap and gloves until fixed. Working on it at inspection time.

Telferner Grocery and Market, 202 S. Wood St., Telferner. Demerits: 3.

Industrial Elementary West, 599 Farm-to-Market Road 444 South, Inez; Smitty's Foodmart, 9 Farm-to-Market Road 444 South, Inez; Buc-ees, 2318 W. Main St., Port Lavaca; Christian Multi-Ethnic Baptist Church, 601 E. Red River St., Victoria; Citizens Medical Center - Dietary, 2701 Hospital Drive, Victoria; Hungry Jacks Thirsty Inc., 1209 E. Airline Road, Victoria; The Spiritual Renewal Center, 718 Gussie Schmidt Road, Victoria. Demerits: 0.

RE-INSPECTIONS

Buffalo Wild Wings No. 232, 7905 N. Navarro St., Victoria, inspected March 4 with 20 demerits. Reinspected March 10 with all violations corrected.
