No. 20 UHV sweeps second doubleheader

The No. 20 UHV softball team swept its second consecutive doubleheader Tuesday with a pair of victories against Huston-Tillotson.

The Jaguars (15-8) won game one 11-2 and followed with a 12-1 win in game two. Both games lasted five innings.

Game one saw UHV jump out to 7-0 before Huston-Tillotson got on the board. Senior Marley Moehrig added to her record-setting career with three RBIs, including a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning to give UHV an 8-1 lead.

First baseman Shelby Smith also had a big game, going 2 for 4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and a stolen base. Moehrig finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and a stolen base to go along with her 3 RBIs.

Alicia Fikac (1-1) earned her first win of the season, pitching five innings and allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

In game two, UHV scored two runs in each of the first two innings before exploding for eight in the third. Moehrig led off the inning with a double and a stolen base before Krissa Powell drove her in with a double to left field. Moehrig would later drive in a run in the same inning when she hit a single to centerfield that scored Shelby Smith and gave the Jaguars a 12-0 lead.

Much like Fikac did in the first game, Seminole Youngblood got her first win of the season and gave up just one run on three hits with a pair of walks.
