Calling all superheroes.

If you've ever wondered what it's like to be a firefighter or a paramedic, the Victoria Fire Department is accepting applications for its Civilian Fire Academy.

The academy, which is free to participants, begins May 5, and classes are from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays.

Training includes life safety, hands-on demonstrations and CPR certification - just to name a few.

Deadline to apply is by 5 p.m. April 9, and class size is limited to 15 participants. To apply, applicants must be at least 18 years old and live within Victoria County.

Applications are available online at victoriatx.org or at Fire Station No. 1, 606 E. Goodwin Ave, or Station No 5, 9508 Zac Lentz Parkway.

For more information, call Tim Hunter at 361-485-3456 or email him at thunter@victoriatx.org.
