Personal banking information stolen through series of mail thefts

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of a series of thefts from rural mailboxes and using stolen personal banking information.

Lupe Ann Arriaga and Alonzo Abel Covarrubias, both of Edna, were arrested at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The banking information was stolen from several DeWitt County residents and was used to make forged checks at businesses throughout the Crossroads, according to the release.

The DeWitt County Sheriff's Office made the arrests.

Arriaga and Covarrubias are each charged with four counts of forgery of a financial instrument with a bond set at $100,000, according to the news release.
