Jaguars win sixth straight
The No. 20 UHV softball team won its sixth straight game Saturday afternoon when the Jaguars (16-8) swept a doubleheader against Northwood University.
UHV won Game 1 11-2 and followed that up with an 11-5 victory.
The Jaguars jumped out to a quick lead in Game 1, scoring all 11 of their runs in the first four innings, including three in the first and third innings and four in the second.
Griffin Gilbert earned her first win of the season for UHV, pitching all five innings and only allowing a pair of runs off eight hits and a walk. She also struck out three batters.
Shelby Smith continued her hot streak at the plate, going 2 for 2 with four RBIs.
In the second game Saturday, UHV saw Northwood take a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning, but three runs in the fourth and four each in the fifth and sixth innings helped the team get by Northwood 11-5.
Savannah Crittenden (5-1) earned the win despite Megan Carter getting the start. Crittenden pitched 3 2/3
Marley Moehrig caught fire with five runs driven on a pair of doubles and a triple.
