Citizens Medical Center has received full reaccreditation status with the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care.
The hospital received its reaccreditation for its percutaneous coronary intervention, an accreditation that shows Citizens delivers a higher level of expertise in dealing with patients who arrive at the hospital with symptoms of a heart attack.
Hospitals that receive accreditation must undergo reviews every three years to maintain their performance status. Citizens has been an accredited Chest Pain Center since 2005 and is the first hospital in the Crossroads to achieve this status.
"Our long-standing status as an accredited Chest Pain Center translates to an outstanding level of cardiac care that outshines many hospitals in the large metropolitan areas," said Suzanne Stone, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, registered nurse and cardiovascular care coordinator of Citizens. "Staff and physicians at Citizens are dedicated to seamless and consistent processes that ensure our cardiac patients have the best chance for returning to an active life and long-term survival.
Key areas in which an Accredited Chest Pain Center must demonstrate expertise include integrating the emergency department with the local emergency medical system, assessing, diagnosing and treating patients quickly and supporting community outreach programs that educate the public to promptly seek medical care if they display symptoms of a possible heart attack, just to name a few.
The goal of the society is to significantly reduce the mortality rate of these patients by teaching the public to recognize and react to the early symptoms of a possible heart attack, reduce the time it takes to receive treatment and increase the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment.
"Citizens Medical Center is known throughout the area for the exceptional care our heart patients receive," said Stephen Thames, Citizens CEO. "I congratulate our staff and medical team for their emphasis on quality and following national guidelines. This designation means that our patients can be assured that they receive the same standard of care at Citizens Medical Center as they can at other great facilities across the nation."
