Best High School:

Victoria East High School

Commitment, parent support and high expectations are what have driven Victoria East High School to the top, said school Principal Lisa Blundell.

"Our parents are very supportive of us when it comes to our athletics, fine arts and academics," Blundell said. "Our teachers are also very committed to the success of our students and it's evident in the way they hold them accountable."

Advocate readers voted it the best high school in the area.

Students also share some of the credit with their participation and use of academic campus resources, Blundell said.

"We have the expectation that our students will take advantage of our homework centers, Saturday tutorials and the individualized teachers we have working with them after school," Blundell said.

The campus offers students SAT preparation courses and actively encourages students to enroll in Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses, the principal said.
