Best Mexican Restaurant:
Ventura's Tamales co-owner Susan Martinez cooks her food with love.
"It sounds cheesy, but I'm the cook and my son is the cook, and we serve food here that we would make in our own kitchens," Martinez said.
This year's win as the best Mexican food restaurant in the Crossroads is a new experience for Ventura's owners, Martinez and co-owner Martha Vasquez. Despite the restaurant's longevity in the Crossroads - and weekly lunch and dinner specials - they always seemed to be overlooked for best Mexican restaurant.
But Martinez said the restaurant, and its menu is kept afloat from a loyal customer base who knows they can always expect quality food with smiling wait staff.
"It's always about the food. We never want to serve something that is not quality just to help our bottom line," she said.
