Commercial Truck Driving Course offered by Victoria College's Workforce and Continuing Education Department begins April 21.

Applications are still being accepted for the commercial truck driving course offered by Victoria College's Workforce and Continuing Education Department, which begins April 21. The course will meet from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and will run about seven weeks.

"Truck driving is not just limited to men; several women have signed up and completed the course," said Sherri Pall, director of VC's Workforce and Continuing Education Department. "Graduates of the VC course have the opportunity to begin a lucrative and exciting career in this industry."

The truck driving program at VC provides training for entry-level employment, and students who complete the training can obtain a commercial truck driver's license.

The program combines classroom instruction along with behind-the-wheel driving range activities, including public, street and highway driving as well as safety, rules, regulations and techniques.

Upon successful course completion, students are eligible to take the commercial driver's license written and driving examinations at the Department of Public Safety. These exams are included as class activities.

In the Crossroads area, truck drivers can earn from $23,000 to $51,000 a year.

Admission requirements include a valid Texas driver's license, successful completion of a Department of Transportation physical examination and a drug and alcohol screening. Tuition assistance may be available.
