UHV eliminated after third game
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After a 10-1 victory Friday against Georgia Gwinnett, the Jaguars fell in their next Association of Independent Institutions game to Cal State San Marcos by one run.
After an extended game, which went 13 innings, UHV scored one less than CSUSM to be eliminated from the tournament with a final score of 8-7.
Freshman Savannah Crittenden pitched most of both games, including 12 innings against CSUSM.
The LaPorte native struck out two, walked four and allowed eight runs on 12 hits by CSUSM.
UHV scored 10 runs off 10 hits against Gwinnett and committed one error in the first game.
But the team wasn't able to keep that momentum going as it had 17 hits against CSUSM but was only able to score on seven of them. UHV committed four errors in the second game.
Shelby Smith led UHV at the plate, going 5 for 9, a double with six RBIs and a home run.
Marley Moehrig was 3 for 8 with three RBIs and a home run.
Crittenden went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI in the second game.
Kristina Droz went 2 for 5 with a triple in the first game. Alex Holland also went 2 for 5 with an RBI.
