Man charged with smuggling 115 pounds of marijuana

A Victoria County Sheriff's Office deputy shows a bundle of the 115 pounds of marijuana found being smuggled in the fuel tank of a silver Dodge Ram on Monday morning.

A 24-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after officers found 115 pounds of marijuana in the fuel tank of the man's truck.

A Victoria County Sheriff's Office deputy stopped Miguel Garza, of Penitas, about 8 a.m. in the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 59. After gaining consent to search the vehicle, the deputy found 39 bundles of marijuana in the silver Dodge Ram, according to a news release.

The deputy who found the marijuana is part of the sheriff office's special operations unit. He noticed Garza exhibiting suspicious behavior consistent with smuggling narcotics, according to the news release.

Garza was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana between 50 and 2,000 pounds.
