3 men arrested in Calhoun County kidnapping case
Three men remained jailed Tuesday after officials say they forced their way into a rural Calhoun County home and threatened the people inside with a knife.
Oscar Jimenez, 48, was arrested in Victoria on Friday on three counts of aggravated kidnapping-terrorize, a first-degree felony; three counts of engaging in organized criminal activity, a first-degree felony; and three counts interfering with an emergency call, a Class A misdemeanor.
Oscar Jimenez's nephews, Michael Jimenez, 25, and Manuel Jimenez III, 27, both of Victoria, also face three counts of aggravated kidnapping-terrorize, three counts of engaging in organized criminal activity and three counts of interfering with an emergency call.
A judge set their bonds at $277,500 each, said Investigator Renette Todd of the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.
The U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force arrested Michael Jimenez on April 8 while he was working as a contractor at Formosa Plastics. Manuel Jimenez was arrested the same day at a home in Port Lavaca, Todd said.
Three victims were first verbally threatened by the men Feb. 7.
They were at Citizens Medical Center visiting a family member who was a patient, the investigator said.
Several hours later, the men then forced their way into the victims' home on Farm-to-Market Road 2235, Todd said.
Two of the victims, both men, were cooking in the kitchen and ran into the bathroom and locked the door, where the third victim, a woman, was showering.
The men pulled all three from the bathroom, brandishing a knife.
One of the men was assaulted and knocked to the ground.
The intruders then ordered the victims into the living room and interrogated them about the family member who was in the hospital, Todd said.
After a time, "they were released and told leave," she said.
The victims have not returned to the area. Todd withheld their names, citing safety reasons.
Todd also declined to explain why the men wanted information about the family member in the hospital or why that person was hospitalized.
She did say one of the victims was related to the Jimenezes.
Oscar Jimenez was in the Victoria County Jail on Tuesday.
Michael Jimenez and Manuel Jimenez III were in the Calhoun County Jail on Tuesday.
