Food service inspections
The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.
In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.
Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.
FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING MAY 2
The Donut Palace, 113 N. state Highway 35, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 11. Employee drinks need lids and straws and need to be kept out of the preparation area. Keep times on sausage rolls in the display case. Date-label food that stays in the cooler more than 24 hours. Do not use pellets to control rodents. Keep sanitizer rags in the sanitizer buckets. One facility or equipment violation.
Speedy Stop No. 12, 2207 N. state Highway 35, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 10. Ice bags need labels. Place the ice scoop on a clean, sanitized surface. Post the current food establishment permit. Two facility or equipment violations.
Stripes No. 9416, 111 E. Morgan St., Cuero. Demerits: 9. Keep paper towels in the restroom. Address problem of black ants by the hot dog station. Do not store burritos directly in grocery sack. Three facility or equipment violations.
Noah's Ark Child Development Center, 2109 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 7. Dispose of out-of-date products in the refrigerator. Clean out the dead roaches in the cabinets. One facility or equipment violation.
Paletera La Salud, 602 W. Main St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 7. Need hot water at hand sink and in the restroom. Keep paper towels at the hand sink and in the restroom. Trash can in restroom needs cover. One facility or equipment violation.
Quick Stop Food Store, 102 E. Austin St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 5. Improper cold-hold temperature.
Beijing Buffet, 339 Calhoun Plaza, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 4. Improper cold-hold temperature.
First Convenience, 1916 W. Austin St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 4. Keep written documentation on time/temperature of egg rolls and sausage.
