About 400 customers lost power early Tuesday morning when a vehicle struck a utility pole, said Elgin Janssen, spokesman for AEP.
A 2003 Cadillac sedan hit the pole when it swerved to avoid hitting a deer. A citation was not issued, and the identity of the driver was unavailable, said Sgt. Jeff Strauss with the Victoria Police Department.
The Victoria Fire Department also responded to the incident to extinguish flames after the pole caught fire, according to a fire department report. No one was injured, Janssen said.
Customers along East Business U.S. Highway 59 from Citizens Medical Center to John Stockbauer Drive lost power. A part of Colony Creek Country Club was without power from about 5:25 a.m. to 6:40 a.m.
At about 1 p.m., AEP repaired a conductor near the intersection of U.S. 59 and John Stockbauer Drive that was damaged earlier, Janssen said. About 200 customers, mostly in Colony Creek Country Club, were without power for about 15 minutes.
