Senior bowler wins second city championship

The 30th annual Victoria Senior Mixed Tournament was held recently with some very good scores being rolled.
The tournament is for senior bowlers age 55 and older with a 100 percent handicap from 200.
In the women's division, Deanna Finnegan won the city champion's title for the second time. With her second victory, she matches husband Charlie Finnegan's two men's senior mixed titles.
She bowled a 656 set to win the singles event and added a 633 series in the team event to total 1,289 for the Class A all-events victory and the senior city championship.
Deanna's first city senior championship was in 2012.
Steve Gritta won the men's division of the senior mixed championship with his highest scores coming during the singles event also.
He started the Friday morning team event with a 653 set before finding the line for great games in the afternoon singles event.
Gritta started with two great scratch games of 245 and 258, which contributed toward a 682 scratch and 739 handicap score for the singles title.
His winning total for Class B all events and the championship was 1,392.
Also cashing in the women's singles event was Nelda Matchett, who finished in second place with a score of 651. Bobbie Long with a 636 and Dawn Marek with a 632 took home third- and fourth-place money.
In the men's singles event, Eddie Stevens Jr. finished in second place with a score of 690. Following Stevens in the money standings were Mack McLemore (662), David Persilver (652), Howard Tesch (638) and Charlie Finnegan (635).
The team event was won by the Has Beens with a score of 2,493. Team members were Alfred Hempel, Bobbie Long, Eddie Stevens Sr. and Eddie Stevens Jr.
Not far behind was the team 2+2, who won second-place money with a score of 2,485. Team members were Winona Klacman, Joan Conaway, Gloria Billo and Ray Nickel.
The all-events winners are also broken down to divisions of men and women and by age.
Class A is age 70 and older, Class B is age 65-69, Class C is age 60-64 and Class D is age 55-59.
In the women's division, Class A was won by Finnegan with her score of 1,289; Class B was won by Cecilia Wilson with a score of 1,183. Class C was won by Dawn Marek with a score of 1,229. There were no entries in Class D.
In the men's division, Class A was won by Charlie Finnegan with a score of 1,297; Class B was won by Gritta with his 1,392, and Class C was won by Howard Tesch with a score of 1,376. There were no entries in Class D.
There were also some very good scratch scores bowled during the tournament: Steve Gritta (245-258-682/230-596), Abel Garcia (232-658/590), Howard Tesch (235-639), Mike Wortham (259-613), Alfred Hempel (235-588), Eric Smith (236-575) and Wayne Conaway (232-552).
